EndNote 21: Desktop: Install Plug-ins

Desktop citation management software helps you organize your research and manage your references

Cite While You Write & Capture

There are two plug-ins you should install to make your citation gathering, writing, and citing references a lot more efficient. These two utilities will enable you to capture references with ease and then incorporate the citations into your Word document.

1. Cite While You Write.

While it is possible to install this plugin from the desktop software, the directions are more complicated than obtaining the software from your account online.  So, log into your EndNote online account, select the Downloads folder, and select the PC or MAC option depending on your operating system.

  • CWYW is only compatible with  Microsoft Word (not Google Scholar etc.)

  • You must have Word and other Microsoft applications closed before you install this utility.

  • Windows users: don't worry about the "with Microsoft Explorer Plug-in" note attached to your download link. You don't have to use Internet Explorer.

2. Capture References

  • You can install Capture in Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. But not Microsoft Edge. Edge and Explorer may fool you since they both have the "E" Symbol.

What is EndNote OneClick?

EndNote Click  (formerly called Kopernio) is a utility that attempts to connect to the library’s journal subscriptions and open access content.  We are still testing this service. This is not the same as the Capture utility.
