EndNote 21: Desktop: Collaboration

Desktop citation management software helps you organize your research and manage your references

Collaboration

When collaborating with others, you can choose to share your entire library, or you can share one of your groups. Before you embark on a group writing project, please take the time to think through important questions up front of how the team needs to work together. This will ensure you are not in the middle of a project and experiencing frustrations with the software.  One primary question: Do you really need to save your whole library? Or just one of your groups?collaboration flowchart

Share a Group

EndNote users can share a library with up to 100 other EndNote users and view an Activity Feed for the shared library. But sometimes you just want to share a group, not your whole library. This video demonstrates this feature in an older version of EndNote but the principles are still the same.

Introduction to Library Sharing

EndNote X8 users can share a library with up to 100 other EndNote users and view an Activity Feed for the shared library. The video below demonstrates the process in  X9., but will work the same way in EndNote 20.

  • EndNote X9 and EndNote X8 have a library sharing feature that allows you to share your entire library with up to 100 other colleagues.
  • Each user must have online accounts connected to the desktop version of EndNote

As part of the Desktop license to  EndNote, you are eligible for a two-year subscription to EndNote online, but it must be set up through the EndNote Desktop software.  You cannot share a library with colleagues if you do not have your online library synced up with your desktop account.

Please see the following article on how to register: EndNote: Register for an EndNote online account included in desktop program.

Please be aware of the following deadlines.

  • EndNote X8 registration deadline is December 2020
  • EndNote X9 registration deadline is December 2023

NOTE: If you do not register for the online account before the deadlineyou will need to upgrade to the current version of EndNote(which is EndNote 20 at this point) to be able to use the Sync feature.
