EndNote 21: Desktop: Home

EndNote is a citation management software designed to store, manage, and cite bibliographic references, such as books and journal articles. EndNote allows you to create your own personal Library of citations by importing references from online databases.  When writing papers, EndNote will automatically format inline citations and bibliographies with the correct citation style (APA, AMA, etc.)  If you already have a personal license to the software, you can easily upgrade to the most recent software version from the library license.  When you graduate from or leave the University, you still retain the rights to the version you have a personal license to. 

There are two options for EndNote at DMU:

Option 1: EndNote Basic (no desktop component to install)

• The free version of EndNote is appropriate for most students and will enable you to share folders and references with users who have the full, paid version of the product. Everyone can start using the free, online version of Endnote Basic at any time. 

Option 2: EndNote Desktop

• The desktop version also synchronizes to an online library; both can contain unlimited references and unlimited attachments.
• Synchronize your references between up to three of your personal computers, an online library, and your iPad through EndNote sync.

• Use your references in word-processing documents to create formatted citations and bibliographies or independent reference lists.

The newest version of Endnote jumped the numbering queue from 9 all the way to 20. But don't let the numbering fool you - this is mostly a cosmetic upgrade to the desktop version of the software and not a major upgrade. For the early adopters, please contact the library for the installers and license keys. For more cautious types, check the comments on the support blog to learn from the experience of others.
