Who Can Borrow What and For How Long

How to renew materials

Open-shelf (DMU collection) items may be renewed five times. Reserve and Board collection items may be renewed twice. After the fifth renewal, we ask that you return the item to the Library. You may check the item out again at that time as long as there is not a hold or conflicting booking on it.

Several options are available for renewing items:

  • Renew online:
    • Click on the My Library Account link in the upper right corner of the Library Catalog, which is located on the Library Web page:
    • Enter your name and Library Barcode number (a five-digit barcode number issued in the library)

log in

Once you are in your account, click on “Items currently checked out”.

Select the item(s) you would like to renew and click the Renew button.

If the item has a hold on it, ON HOLD will appear in the status box, and the item will not renew.

  • Renew by replying to email notices and requesting a renewal.
  • Renew by phone. Call 515-271-1537.
  • Renew in person at the circulation desk.
  • Send an email to requesting a renewal.

Please Note:

  • An item in the DMU, journal, or Leisure Reading collection cannot be renewed if a hold has been placed on it.
  • An item in the Reserve collection cannot be renewed if the renewal conflicts with a booking that has been placed on the item.

Weekend/holiday renewal requests

If you send an email requesting a renewal over the weekend, your request will be read on the next business day, but will be processed as of the date that the request was sent.
