In October 2024, DMU Library hosted our first MisinfoDay@DMU in partnership with the University of Washington and the Center for an Informed Public. We hosted two events and worked with the University of Washington to adapt their program to work for our graduate students.

The panel event included three different faculty speakers who spoke on misinformation and how it shows up in the medical field, around immigration, and in our lives. There was a lot of interest and excitement around this topic, and attendees requested more time for questions and discussion next year.

The escape room event centered on a story-line about a health supplement being released into a water supply and asked participants to determine if the health supplement was safe and if the source was trustworthy. Students had a fun time solving puzzles, which included identifying AI images and deepfakes.

Both events created great conversations around how to identify and debunk misinformation in personal and professional settings.
